FNT2T and City of Brandon Flag Ceremony

Brandon, Treaty 2 Territory – The First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory Official flag was raised at Brandon City Hall on October 1st 2019. Jason Gobeil, Aboriginal Community Coordinator, kicked off the afternoon agenda with welcoming remarks, followed with a pipe ceremony by Warren Bone of Keeseekoowenin First Nation.

The FNT2T official flag was raised at 1:50 PM in front of City Hall. Accompanied by the FNT2T flag was the Metis Nation flag. Today embarked a celebration and acknowledgement of Indigenous people in the City of Brandon. Following the raising of the flags, the afternoon continued with a speech from Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest, FNT2T Grand Chief Eugene Eastman, and MMF Vice President Leah LePlante.

The FNT2T presented Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest with a Treaty 2 of 1871 Medal, FNT2T vest, FNT2T flag, and FNT2T map. Rick Chrest was grateful to receive his gifts from the FNT2T and stated “this is a very powerful day,” referring to the relationship building between the City of Brandon and the Indigenous community & territory. Grand Chief Eastman shared the importance of “moving forward together…and finding harmony in walking together.” The event was a part of the BUAPC week of Indigenous celebrations and was a huge success!
