Council of Chiefs

The Council of Chiefs are made up of one (1) Chief from each Anishinaabe Nation within Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan – Treaty 2 and First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory.  Direction is given by the Grand Council to the Council of Chiefs giving a mandate to protect and implement the treaty.

The Council of Chiefs assemble four (4) times per year as Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan, and each assembly is hosted by one of the Anishinaabe Nations within Treaty 2 territory.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OF CHIEFS
The Executive Council is accountable, to the Council of Chiefs of Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan. The Executive Council is responsible, for assignment of work, to the Senior Officials, as set out within our Governance structure and Onankonehkawin.

The Executive Council, shall take up any instructions, provided by Resolution, of either the Council of Chiefs of Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan, or the Council of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory.

The Executive Council, meets monthly within the Treaty 2 Territory. The Executive Council shall consider agenda items, recommendations, from Senior Officials or staff members.

GRAND CHIEF – The Grand Chief is a member in good standings from one (1) of the members within Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan – Treaty 2 Anishinaabek.  The Grand Chief is the political, collective voice of Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan – Treaty 2 Anishinaabek.

The Grand Chief position is political, and that individual is the primary spokesperson, of Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan.

The Grand Chief is selected through the Legislative Assembly of the Grand Council, and the individual maybe an elected Chief, from one of the AnishinaabeNations of Treaty 2.
