Treaty 2 Territory – The Director is the primary leader and principal advisor to the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory (FNiT2T) Government and its Senior Officer(s). The role of the Director is to over-see the Secretariat in its entirety and work collaboratively with the Secretariat Directors, Managers and junior staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Principal leader of the Secretariat and primary supervisor for its operation;
  • Directs the overall development, implementation and delivery for the Secretariat;
  • Manages intermediate level staff of the Secretariat (ex: Directors, Managers);
  • Ensures proper protocol is adhered to and respectful relationships are established with the First Nations and their memberships;
  • Develops and implements processes that will determine FNiT2T needs as a foundation for the development for FNiT2T priorities proposals, workplans and budgets;
  • Conducts negotiations, establishes partnerships with external entities, makes agreements on behalf of the work of the Secretariat and receives approval through the government and its council(s);
  • Develops and implements a communication strategy with member First Nations;
  • Ensures the work plan, proposals(s), partnerships are professional and represent FNiT2T in good standing;
  • Ensures relevant and effective programs and services are provided to member First Nations schools and students;
  • Identifies goals and objectives and expected outcomes for the secretariat;
  • Represents the secretariat of the FNiT2T in a professional and ethically sound manner;
  • Establishes partnerships and seeks resources;
  • Ensures the Secretariat is operating effectively and efficiently;
  • Accountable for the overall management of the Secretariat and provides transparency and reporting to the public as required by the FNiT2T;
  • Ensures the communication in the Secretariat is effective;
  • Travel as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess the following skills and attributes:

  • mbination of education, training, and a minimum of 10 years experience in the field;
  • Knowledge of education programs and policies;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Knowledge of local, regional, national current events and politics;
  • Proven exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work as a team player to effectively interact with elected officials, staff, media, service providers, and government agencies;
  • Highly motivated and ability to work in demanding and fast‐paced work environment;
  • Exceptional organizational and time‐management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines;
  • Self‐motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe language and understanding of culture and tradition an asset;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and own vehicle;
  • Maintain confidentiality with a high level of accuracy regarding information.
