Grand Council & Treaty Gathering Postponement

Treaty 2 Territory - It is with the greatest respect to the family and community of Elder Doug Blackbird who has departed from this life and is journeying into the next that we acknowledge his life and the history he carried with him. Elder Blackbird was the last living descendent that experienced the forced relocation from the Riding Mountain area to the present location of the Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation. Elder Blackbird was recognized as a hard-working man and highly respected by all who knew him. It is a great loss not only for the people of Keeseekoowenin, but for all of the First Nations in Treaty 2 territory.

It is the Anishinaabe way to stop all formal activity and give honour to the departed spirit who is journeying to meet the Creator. The Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan - Treaty 2 will follow this protocol and is postponing the Grand Council gathering scheduled for August 19-21, 2018 at Keeseekoowenin 61A. No date has been confirmed yet as to when the gathering will be rescheduled and another date will be announced shortly.
